Tonto Dikeh & Van Vicker Fight

While some stars try so hard to stay away from controversies, some are busy swimming in it. One of the people in the latter group is star actress, Tonto Dikeh. It all started on the set of a new movie, the director noticed that Tonto Dikeh and Ghanaian star actor, Van Vicker were rehearsing their lines separately, counter to the normal coming together for rehearsal before shoot. The movie director steps in to bridge the gap between the duo, but is presence stirred up Tonto’s anger as she started throwing tantrum.   Van Vicker The situation worsens when Tonto lit her cigarette and started puffing,Van Vicker told her politely to stop or she smoke outside.Tonto took that to be an insult,and she started insulting Van Vicker by using words like fuck you,who the fuck do you think you are,asshole,motherfucker. According to source, It took the timely intervention of cast and crew on set, before they could calm Tonto dikeh down as she threatened to hit Van Vicker with the table by the side.

"Somewhere In Africa" Tops NAFC Awards Nominations

The Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFCA) has released its nomination list, with ‘Somewhere in Africa’ taking the lead in the Ghanaian movie industry with 12 nominations. ‘Somewhere In Africa’, directed by Frank Rajah, has a gripping story which most movie enthusiasts are still waiting to see. It was supposed to be premiered a couple of weeks ago but was postponed. It is yet to grace the big screens, yet the movie which featured Majid Michel, Martha Ankomah, Eddie Nartey, Kofi Adjorlolo and others has bagged a lot of NAFCA nominations. The award, which is the maiden edition, will be held annually in September, in Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S.A. The award will take place on September 16 and 17 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center, Durham, North Carolina. Ghallywood has made yet another remarkable impact in the African movie industry by picking nominations in almost all the categories. Frank Artus, Roseline Ngissah, Eddie Nartey, Ekow Blankson, Nadia Buari, Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Shirley Frimpong Manso, Moses Inwang, Pascal Amanfo, Frank Rajah Arase, among others, have been nominated. The Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards has put together the best of events for the first time in the history of Africa to celebrate Africa filmmakers in the USA NAFCA have got outstanding award categories like ‘Diaspora awards’, People’s Choice’, and ‘Honorary awards’. Lord Kenya: I've Been Deceived...Ghanaians Should Not Buy The Movie

Rap heavy weight Champion, Lord Kenya, who turned born-again Christian last year is beside himself with regret that he ever accepted to star in a movie by Frederick Opoku popularly known as Koskolee. At the time of shooting the movie, Kenya knew that he title was Back to Back. On its release two week ago, however, the movie title had been changed to Doggy Style: Back 2 Back and the preacher man says he has been deceived. The Change in the movie title is not the only beef Kenya has with the producer. He is also very disappointed that the packaging on the back of the CD shows pictures of him and a half naked girl; in fact Kenya’s head appears to lie directly on the naked girls’ protruded bum. Lord Kenya told Showbiz last Thursday that in the movie he played the role of an elder who counsels a group of young guys to leave their bad lifestyles. “At that time, I thought that was cool, so I accepted to play the role”, Kenya said. According to him, he didn’t get to see the final product of the movie after it was shot in 2009 until last week when was informed that the movie was on the market. “When I was told about the title and the picture it carried, I could not believe my ears until I saw it myself”, he said. “I didn’t charge any money for playing in the move because I liked the role I was given to play; for a born again Christian like me to advise young folks to desist from their bad ways, I thought it was on course in my God-given duty. The hiplife musician who has won several awards said no one should buy the move just because he is in it. “I don’t want to be associated with anything so indecent that would tarnish my image, therefore I advice Ghanaians not to buy the movie”, Kenya said. The producer had a different story to tell when Showbiz contacted him. According to Koskolee, titles of movies can change at any point in time.   It was true that the movie was shot in 2009 when Lord Kenya was born again but we settled for Doggy Style: Back 2 Back because I know this title will sell the movie better. He however said it was not true that Lord Kenya didn’t take an money for featuring in the move. I personally gave him 10million old cedis in 2009 a few days after the movie was shot.

Mr. Ibu     FOR some observers of trend in Nollywood, John Okafor has become something of a hardened comedian who interprets scripts in his own way—most times to a level that critics have described as ‘hilarious imbecility’. In fact the Enugu state born actor who is popular as Mr. Ibu interprets his role so well that his teeming fans often find it difficult to draw the line between Okafor and the role he plays in movies. Today the former refrigerator technician, hairdresser, factory worker and itinerant photographer has become very successful as an actor. A devoted disciple of the genre and a gifted humour creator, Mr. Ibu who wandered into acting by chance, has grown immensely popular that his biggest problem now is privacy and relaxation. ‘I can hardly go anywhere without being mobbed. I have become a public property’ he says The bulky actor also found time to reflect on the passing away of Samuede Efeimwonkiyeke a.k.a Sam Loco Efe. Can you still recall the journey here? Well the journey here has been okay. I thank God for bringing me this far. I started all this as a joke and in fact, got into it by chance. But it started for me even though I didn’t do it as something I wanted to take as a profession from primary school, all through the secondary school and even when I entered higher institution. So, it is a long time that I started being a fool. I recall my teachers asking me often if I was alright, but I always told them that it is a gift that God gave me to make people happy and forget their sorrows and pain. And that gift has not only opened so many doors for me but has put food on my table. I may not be a millionaire, but am very comfortable. But even though God gave you the talent as you claimed, there must be someone who inspired your incursion? Yes my grandfather. He is one man who inspired me. Back then in Eziokwe in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State where I come from, my granddad used to entertain the villagers with jokes. He was like a local champion. So I took after him somehow and to make a difference, I became an idiot who made people laugh from the way I talked, walked, appear and so on. People just start laughing once they see me. Now, people don’t take me serious even when I am serious. It is a problem in a way, but I have devised how to manage that problem. I just begin to cry and when they know that I am not joking, they rush to me. Once, you mentioned that the late Sam Loco was a heavy influence on you? Yes he was. I mean, apart from my grandfather, there were other people I encountered on screen that influenced my incursion and the late, oh, I hate to describe him as the late, Sam Loco was one of them. I consider him one of our greatest and irreplaceable actors. I still did not believe he is gone. He is one man that played my father consistently in movies. If I have done 20 jobs, he played my father in 19 and that made us very close. I keep on talking with him even on phone because we have a project together. We were supposed to be at the American Embassy for our visa interview and I called him to give him this information, but no one picked the call. When I called again, someone picked and told me that he had fever the previous night and was still sleeping and will talk to me later. Then not long after, I started receiving calls from people about his death. He will be sorely missed. He was a jolly good fellow—-a master of the craft. I am still trying to walk out of the shock of losing him. Okay, let us leave that now and talk about your staying power and why you are devoted to just playing comic roles? If I tell you that I know something else apart from God, then I am a liar. I attribute it to God and God alone. He provides strength. As for comic roles, I am a very flexible and versatile actor but funny enough I have been stereotyped into playing comic roles. I always want to take up other roles but it is not something that I can dictate. I take on roles that I am given. But I still believe in my ability to take up any role. And the name Mr. Ibu has replaced your given names? It has and it is not funny even though I am enjoying it. Once someone came around where I live and was asking about John Okafor and people were just wondering who he was looking for; but as soon as he mentioned Mr. Ibu, they pointed to where I lived. And funny enough, I have been answering that name Mr. Ibu before Andy Chukwu wrote that script. He only added a Mister to the normal name they have been calling me and that film turned out to be something else because I was completely an idiot in that film—a very stupid animal. In fact, the character was an idiot, not me. But Ibu came about because of my size. Ibu means load, something with some weight and I have considerable weight as you can see. So, has acting been very rewarding? Well, it depends on what you mean by rewarding. If it is being rich, well I am not a rich man, but I am not hungry. God has been so wonderful. People love me so much. Do you know I get cars and money gifts from here and there? People stop me on the way to dash me things because I have brought joy to them. One man stopped me once and dashed me a large sum of money because according to him, I always entertain him and his family. That is the joy. The only problem I have with the whole thing is that people don’t take me serious when I am serious. If I am crying now, people will think I am joking. If I stop a lady on the street for instance, she will just say ‘hey Ibu, abi you wan use me act again’ and the thing wey dey hungry me go still dey hungry me. I no go talk go that side again. I will respect myself and move on. But I am very happy doing this. I enjoy my stay in the industry so much and I will keep staying, especially now that I consider it my main constituency. I don’t think there is anything that I will get involved in now that will give me as much as the joy that acting has given me. And my family is happy with what I am doing. They love me to the last. They keep praying for me to succeed and I will never forget them. My mum who is over 80 years is my greatest fan. I love that woman and my family to the core. I love my children too. Nigerian Broadcasting Cooperation Ban D'banj's New Single

D'banj     Reports reaching us revealed that D'banj new single "Oliver Twist" has been banned by the Nigerian Broadcasting Cooperation (NBC) on grounds of using "Lewd Lyrics". NBC has issued a circular round all media houses to stop playing the song on radio or TV stations with immediate effect.

Buk Bak Swears...We Never Split

Buk Bak For some years now, Ghanaians have continuously speculated that popular hiplife group ‘Buk Bak’ had split, the reason for the group’s absence from the music scene. But the group has bounced back with vim, swearing that it never split. The group, made up of Bright Prince Tackey Sparkles, Ronnie Coches and Shoetan, in an interview with NEWS-ONE and a section of Ghana’s entertainment media last Wednesday denied the claims of split. According to the members, they came to an agreement to do solo projects at a point in their career and that was what generated the speculations that they had split. However, they acknowledged that as a group, there were times when they had problems and misunderstood each other as a result of miscommunication. “Now we are mature and we are family. If anything at all, we will call each other and settle it among ourselves. When I arrived, Tinny was the first guy I called to say what’s up even though people think we have issues.” The group is currently gearing up for a comeback project. Bright has been living in the USA for over 5 years while Ronnie lives in Ghana and at times USA. Shoetan was the first to travel to Canada but he is back. Buk Bak, which originally had four members, first attracted attention with their hit song ‘Komi Ke Kena’. Shoetan got into trouble with Adisadel College in Cape Coast because he wore a school uniform in the ‘Komi Ke Kena’ video. Two original members of the group left for different reasons, and as a duo, Buk Bak continued to be successful with albums like ‘Awensem’, ‘Sika Kokoo’ and ‘Gold Coast’. It also collaborated with groups like K-2 and 4×4 to release more hit tracks. The group was rumored to have split up in 2006, but it maintained that it was simply pursuing separate projects. Bright’s debut album was highly successful with tracks like ‘Condom’ and ‘What Dem Plan’ . Bright told NEWS-ONE that he didn’t see their new project as a comeback because he thought “Buk Bak has always been there.” “There has always been Buk Bak. So I don’t see where the coming back is coming from. We return to see GH, breath the air and enjoy GH. We are meeting now, there is a lot going on. We have projects in all areas not music alone. On a broader perceptive there are other things to look at. Brothers (Ronnie & Shoetan) are still crazy as they used to be, so watch out. But we are enjoying what is on air now,” he added. He was supposed to be on Sarkodie’s show in the US last Saturday but he came down to make arrangement with the other group members and enjoy Ghana before going back. They also had some meetings with Reggie Rockstone. Buk Bak however said they would not drop hints on when its new project would hit the music scene.

Alex Snubs Jay-Z

Many African designers, without doubt, will not turn down an opportunity to work with top hop hip mogul Jay Z’s Rocawear clothing line. However, Ghana’s representative at the just-ended Big Brother Amplified reality show in South Africa, Alex Biney, has stated that he once blew such a chance. Alex told NEWS-ONE in an exclusive interview that he was back home to establish his Boomaye clothing line. Although he said Rocawear was one of the places he nurtured the dream of becoming a fashion designer, he needed to move on because of his principles in life. “I started out doing marketing. I actually started out data entry for Rocawear but I left to pursue marketing for Russell and after that I got into fashion. I go to work from 9am to 6pm and then after 6, I go downstairs for the fashion side where they design Phat Farm stuff and I helped out there and also learned. So I started doing that on computer and after leaving Russell, opportunity presented itself from a clothing line called Inkslingers. They were starting out new and they needed somebody to help them so I went on board as a marketing personnel but eventually I started designing my own stuff and became a partner of the company,” he narrated. “The type of person I am, I’m always driven …my father always instilled in me that being the best or being excellent is not enough. It is being excellent continuously and you can only achieve that when you wake up every day and set new challenge for yourself, so working with Jay Z’s clothing line or working with Russell was good but at the end of the day, for the person I am, I want to have my own brand. I wanted to establish myself as a designer and I set such a goal for myself. It just motivates me to come in and perform at different levels. Some people will see it differently but this is how I choose to see my life. I always want more,” he explained. Besides coming home to pursue a career in the fashion industry, he also confirmed that he was entering Ghana’s growing movie industry. “I met Lydia Forson and hopefully I will have the opportunity to work with her. I had the pleasure to meet Jackie Appiah and she was cool. So hopefully I can work with her. Of course, I need Nadia Buari in my life; I need her in my life man, so movie is an avenue that I wanted to tap into. Nadia has an incredible smile that is what drew me or piqued my interest about her. I watched her ‘Beyonce’ and ‘Who Owns Da City’ movie but I am not a Nadia fanatic. I will definitely like to work with her,” he spoke about some of the actresses in the movie industry.   Jay Z Last Saturday, Alex was at the Exopa Fashion Café organized by the Exopa Modeling Company, in collaboration with NEWS-ONE at the Exopa Burge, as part of efforts to create some links for his fashion bid. “I am at this event to build a relationship with Exopa and make new connections and re-establish myself in Ghana as a designer. Already I have relationships in New York but if I can establish myself here, if I go out there it will be easy for me.” Currently, he has created some designs and is trying them to get people’s attention. Talking about his experience at Big Brother, Alex said the response after his return was ok, adding that it was taking him some time to realize he had been on TV. Alex spent almost all his life in the United State of America. He spent 12 years in New York and 8 years in London. He left Ghana at the age of 2 and returned at 6 and left for New York when he was 19 and returned at 31.

Yvonne Tells How She Turned Bridesmaid for Mercy Johnson

Mercy Johnson & Yvonne Nelson Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has opened up about her decision to play an integral role in Mercy Johnson’s wedding and her experience as Mercy’s bridesmaid. According to the leggy actress, she wasn’t surprised she was chosen to be Mercy’s bridesmaid because they both had a long-standing relationship as friends. However, the invitation, she said, came to her as prank since she thought it was one of their usual jokes. “I was once a bridesmaid for my sister’s wedding. This is my second time. I have known about Mercy’s wedding like four month before the wedding. Me and Mercy talk every time. She called me and told me about it and I was very happy for her. I was like oh my God, are you serious? I thought she was playing a prank on me. Mercy is like a dear friend. She is somebody I love working with, so I told her I am honoured and I’d love to come and be her bridesmaid. That is how it all happened,” she told NEWS-ONE on Monday after her return to town. She said it was a really wonderful experience and was happy to be part of such a memorable occasion, which attracted a lot of celebrated names in African movie industry. “It was a wonderful experience and it was also tiring. To be a bridesmaid wasn’t easy. It wasn’t all flashy because I was doing almost everything for the bride. I was supposed to be there for her when she needed anything. I did not see myself as a celebrity or whatever. I went down to do whatever I could to make her happy. It was her day and she had to feel special. So I was just being a friend. For that day I was being a bridesmaid and I tried to do my job well. When I got to my hotel, my feet were hurting like crazy. My shoes were 4inches high and it was tough because I was going around doing this, doing that and it was a wonderful experience,” she emphasized. Yvonne said she learnt a lot of lessons from her experience as bridesmaid. “When you are there you will feel like wow it is so sweet, they are married and you also have to think about settling down and everything. It is a nice thing. I mean you hardly see these things, they won’t come every day. So when you are witnessing a marriage like that and to be the bridesmaid, you learn so much,” she said. “You sit down and reflect and go like wow, ok you also have to think about settling down and start a family. It is a nice thing; I have seen it before when my sister got married and I have seen it again. So I guess very soon, mine should be on the way. I don’t know how soon but very soon. Yes very soon,” the award-winning actress said. Some of the Nigerian actors at the wedding included Genevieve Nnaji, Chike Ike, Aki and Pawpaw, Emeka Ike, Empress Njamah, Queen Okoye, and Segun Arinze. From Ghana were Majid Michel, Fred Nuamah, Frank Rajah and a few others. Patience Ozokwor and Mike Ezuronye also popped at the wedding to show their love despite rumours of a fracas with Mercy before her wedding. Yvonne wasn’t able to attend the traditional marriage ceremony but she said she was happy to be part of the wedding held at Christ Embassy Church at Ikeja.

Reports coming in suggest that Vodafone Ghana has confirmed that American model Amber Rose will host the second edition of the annual Vodafone 020 Live concert slated for The Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre, September 20. Amber Rose is best known for her high-profile relationships with rappers Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa. The controversial model is on record as saying that, being with Wiz Khalifa was the best decision she made after going through a rough relationship with ex-boyfriend Kanye West. She also noted for posing for a Louis Vuitton, walking the runway for Celestino and being the face of Boadicea the Victorious perfume. Rose has also made cameos in music videos for Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Mary Mary, Nicki Minaj and Fabolous. Having spotted them on several occasions cruising around town in very luxurious cars even makes it mind boggling for them to be fighting over a low class Car. Perhaps Juliet Ibrahim would just love to have another luxurious automobile at her beck. Yvonne Okoro has an even more exciting explanation to give to her fans when Nigeria Films delved into this issue. Yvonne to her defense had explained that the posh car her fans sees her riding through town belongs to her mother since she had none. Rumour has it that Yvonne was also looking forward to receiving one posh automobile from One Top black star player whom she was sexing secretly. An informant nigeriafilms spoke to on the issue revealed that she has “sweet-talked” the player into buying her a particular brand car. The informant added that Yvonne, despite her sweet-talk, fame and beauty ended up losing on both the car and the player. It turned out the man in question hates to date women who are “controlling and demanding”. The informant lamented that Yvonne Okoro is not the only celebrity who has graced this players' bed - some Nigerian and other top Ghanaian Movie stars have also fallen victim. Nigerian Pastor: Ghanaian Actors Are Bewitching Nollywood Actors & Actresses And Killing Them

Following the controversial death of another prolific thespian in the Nigeria movie industry, Nollywood, the General Overseer of Consuming Fire Prayer Ministry, Ogba, Lagos, Pastor Sebastine Ndu, has claimed that rivalry is the cause of recurrent deaths in the Nollywood. The clergyman, who reiterated that Nigerian actors need total deliverance against the scourge, said that the actors are being attacked by their counterparts in Ghana and South Africa. “Nigerian actors have been outshining these people for many years and they (the foreigners) are desperate to take over. So Nollywood actors need total deliverance against all forces that may be coming from outside or within. The deaths are beyond ordinary,” Ndu stated. In a chat with NollywoodReel, the man of God stressed that “in Hollywood and other movie sectors of the world, actors hardly die predominantly unlike it is in Nigeria and that calls for serious concern.” The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, had earlier told members of the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood and entertainers at large, that for them to be fulfilled in their chosen career, they need something supernatural. Pastor Adeboye, made this statement on Sunday, 5 June, 2011, during a special prayer service organised for practitioners of the Nigerian entertainment industry at the Throne of Grace, Ebute-Meta, Lagos, headquarters of the church. The programme was organised in a bid to pray against sudden deaths and negative occurrences that seem to have engulfed the entertainment industry, Nollywood in particular, for some years now. Some of the movie personalities that attended the programme include Mike Bamiloye of Mount Zion Ministry and his wife, National President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, Segun Arinze, Prince Jide Kosoko and his wife, Henrietta, Wale Adenuga, Pa James, Justus Esiri, Rachael Oniga, Hakeem Rahman, Yetunde Wunmi and Esther Idowu Philips, a.k.a. Iya Rainbow. Others were Femi Ogedengbe, Kelvin Ikeduba, Ajala Jalingo, Madam Saje, Ayo Adesanya and Bimbo Oshin, to mention a few. During his brief sermon and prayer session for the entertainers, Pastor Adeboye acknowledged that an average actor in Nigeria is extremely talented, but hinted that without supernatural connections, they cannot have a fulfilled career. The popular clergyman explained that “success in life requires something supernatural. Talent alone is not enough,” adding that if success is being measured by hard work, labourers in Wharf should be the most successful. “Entertainers in Nigeria are hard working and talented, but there is something missing. David would have died unknown but for divine intervention, but unfortunately, most people turn to the devil for help,” Adeboye said. He therefore urged Nigerian entertainers to move closer to God, stressing that He is the only one who can crown their efforts and protect them from terrible occurrences. Adeboye added that a lot of entertainers have even died unknown with their talents simply because they could not connect with the supernatural power that can make their aspirations come true. While citing King David in the Bible as an example, he said “David was a talented singer, but for years, he was only singing for the sheep. But when the king was in trouble, he needed a good singer to pacify him and that was how someone recommended David. He later became the king despite rumblings from other people. Actress: Agya Koo Can’t Bonk Me

Linda Abbey, actress and wife of celebrated actor comedian Augustine Abbey popularly called Idikoko, is mad over reports that she is having a clandestine love affair with top Ghanaian actor Agya Koo.

She has threatened to drag to court all the media houses that carried the story, including News-one.

“How can I be chasing him for love? Agya Koo cannot sleep with me because I am a responsible, married woman and I do not cheat on Idikoko. What you saw was just a movie and I was only being professional but it does not mean I want him to have sex with him,” Linda Abbey added.

Mzbel’s Docket Missing

The Criminal case pending against 31-year-old hip life star, Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel at an Accra Motor Court, seems not to be over yet as the docket on the case was conspicuously missing from court yesterday.

Even the songstress was present at court, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Seiwah Dora, told the court the docket on the case was not available.

The presiding magistrate, Plange Brew, adjourned the next court hearing to September 13, 2011, after he had sat on the case for just two minutes.

The songstress spent three days weeping in police cells with two other accomplices, Emmanuel Paa Kwesi, 31, and Maxwell Mawuli, 32, who were arrested by officials of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) for physically assaulting a uniformed policeman on official duty.

She is facing two charges of obstructing a police officer from executing his lawful duty and assault of police officer.

Hollywood Actor Anthony Anderson Celebrates Birthday In Ghana

Although Wikipedia lists his birthday as August 15, American actor, producer, creator and all around funnyman, Anthony Anderson on Saturday, August 13 celebrated his 42nd birthday with fans in Ghana. The actor is in Ghana as the grand host for ‘The Spirited Actor: Search for Africa’s Next Hollywood Star’ reality TV series.

After recording the performance show for the Nigerian contestants and the announcement of the finalists who would head for New York to pursue their Hollywood dreams on Friday, Anthony announced to the audience that the following day was his birthday and he invited the public to come celebrate with him at the Boomerang Nightclub in Accra. And that’s exactly what the Ghanaian fans did on Saturday night when they trooped to the venue for the celebrity bash.

Before the event, Anthony put on his Twitter page, “Ghana come and celebrate my birthday tonight at Boomerang”.
