Popular Movie Stars Flopped At ‘The Spirited Actor
Fred Nuamah Caught Driving Ghana Movie Awards Car
Fred Nuamah |
Fred was seen personally driving the car at the Aphrodisiac Night Club on Saturday, July 16, 2011 during the Eviction Party for Ghanaian Big Brother Amplified housemate Alex Biney. Fred, who also doubles as an actor, was in the company of two Nigerian Producers in Ghana for business and to also grace the eviction party. He admitted driving the prize car to Aphrodisiac Night Club on the said date but explained rather casually that he decided to take it out for a spin to social events in a bid to "make the car somewhat visible".
When Fred was asked on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review” why he has decided to drive a branded car instead of his personal car, he replied, "there is no big deal if i decide to drive a car i personally acquired for two top winners of the Ghana Movie Awards".
According to him, winners of the prize car were supposed to cruise around town in it as a form of advertising the various companies that sponsored the event and showcase their respective logos, but since the four actresses have refused to drive the car, he will do so himself.
“It is not my fault that the actresses have not come for their car but the promise we made to the sponsors must be fulfilled...It is just fair to understand where I am coming from, as the founder of the event. I am driving the car because the second edition of the awards is coming on this year; I presented the car to the four of them and up till now they have not come for it for no reason and we can’t allow it to sit in a parking lot,” Fred Nuamah said.
“If you refuse to abide by the rules given to you the car is taken from you. I have already said that I am going to meet with the jury then we decide on the car but we can’t say that because they have won the car and they are not driving it we should leave it parked there. At least I have to warm the engine once in a while...It is a promotional car, there are company logos on the car so if they are doing this, either I find somebody to do it or I do it myself”.
He disagreed with the suggestion that it was unethical to cruise around town in the prize car.
“If you tell me that you saw my sister, my uncle, my mother or any member of my family driving the car, I will concede that is wrong; but I drove the car myself meaning that we are promoting the event because the second edition is around the corner," he explained.

J Martins Alleged To Be Homosexual
J Martins |
Justice Okey Martins popularly known as J Martins may be many things in the industry but not a perfect man if the story filtering in about him is anything to go by in the culture of morals.
Information reaching us about this artiste who is a native of Ohafia in Abia State is that the man who many believed is one of the most decent Nigerian music stars when the issue of discussion is about women, may even be worse than what his peers in the industry are doing to the opposite sex.
The story making rounds is that the “Oyoyo” crooner allegedly has more passion for his male counterparts than the female, the immoral act simply known as homosexuality.
A source alleged that he is not always comfortable in the midst of women though he pretends to be so that many people wouldn’t know what he is up to.
Further learnt that he is the female, which accounts for the way he cat-walks like a woman. Sources also said his new-found wealth and affluent lifestyle emanates from his sexual proclivity, because he is pampered with expensive gifts of cash and other material things by his influential and rich male friends in the country.
His frequent trips aside from his musical career are alleged to be an avenue to meet with his friends scattered across the country. When probing further, the source said he is discreet about it and he always denies it whenever anything about his dirty lifestyle is mentioned because of the way many people will view it. But he knows very well who he is.

Actress Mad Over ‘Bullshit’
Khareema Aguiar |
But the beautiful actress did not sound like the usual amiable and outgoing person that she is known to be. She sounded angry with someone. However, she refuses to mention what exactly was bothering her.
“I’m excited about the award but as I’m speaking to you now, I am really really pissed off. Somebody in the industry has really pissed me off. People you call your friends go about saying all kind of things about you. It is a bullshit thing in the industry. It is not fair. There is plenty of backbiting and I don’t think those people doing that are focused and responsible. If they are responsible and think about themselves, they will not go about saying trash about me,” she said angrily.
“Charlie, I will tell you what it is or whom I am talking about, if I find it necessary to talk about again. Right now I am really pissed off. Some of us have children and better things to think about and not …if they are responsible they wouldn’t be doing that,” Khareema said.
“I will think about it and get back to you if I want to comment it,” she added.
News-one is investigating to find out Khareema’s friends in the industry who are involved this backbiting business.
The tall sexy eye actress has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the City People Awards, alongside Naa Ashorkor Doku, Martha Ankomah and Beverly Afaglo.
That is the second time she has been nominated for a best supporting actress category but her first for City People Awards. She was first nominated at the last Ghana Movie Awards, which was won by Nadia Buari.
The award ceremony is scheduled for Lekki, a plush area in Nigeria on August 7. There is also a tall list of other Ghanaian named to be at the ceremony.
Khareema had her screen debut appearance in TV series ‘All That Glitters’ in 2005. Since then, she has not looked back. The mother of one currently has a number of movies to her credit including Shirley Frimpong Manso’s Checkmate’.
Khareema is passionate about the aged. Hence in 2010, she celebrated her birthday with the inmates of Help Age Ghana at Osu in Accra with a four-day event characterized with free health screening for the inmates, NHIS registration, beauty makeover and a party.
Born into a family of seven children, she lost her parents at a tender age. So Khareema grew up living with her aunt and husband whom she considered as parents but unfortunately she lost the aunt too.
Khareema sees old age as a divine gift and always calls on philanthropists to support the aged as everybody will one day get there.
Salam Snubs ‘Single Six’ Cast
ABDUL SALAM |
Rather, he left for Liberia with a couple of Ghanaian stars who are not part of the ‘Single Six’ cast.
The development, according to reports, is generating uproar within the movie industry, with some of the movie’s cast grumbling and fuming in anger.
For fear of being banned, none of the cast is however ready to go public over the development but they are grumbling that Salam had not been fair to them.
The movie’s lead actresses include Yvonne Okoro, Ebi Bright, Mzbel, Beverly Afaglo, Ciara Galega, and Zynell Lydia Zuh with male cast include Adjetey Annan, John Dumelo, Eddie Watson, Timothy Bentum and Prince David Osei.
But he producer only took Yvonne Okoro and Eddie Watson for the Liberia Premiere.
He also travelled with Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Nelson, Frank Raja, Frank Artus, Samira Yakubu and other who are in no way related to the movie.
Reports say the ‘Single Six’ cast may boycott the Ghana premiere to register their protest.
Information from Salam’s camp explains that what he did was a smart business strategy to attract large a large crowd to his Liberia premiere because those on the trip were very popular in that country and their presence was most likely to increase patronage at the premiere.
Salam and his crew are expected to return to Ghana today, Monday July 25.
The new movie tells the story of six single beautiful ladies namely; Yolanda (Ebi Bright), Kendra (Beverly Afaglo), Zila (Ciara Galega), Christine (Mzbel), Serena (Zynell Lydia Zuh) and Tatiana (Yvonne Okoro), all at the top in their various professions, who do all in their power to find love and affection, yet fail to achieve their dreams.
The movie will be premiered in Ghana on Friday, July 29 at the Silverbird Cinema in Accra.

I'll Arrest Nana Boroo - SK Blinks
NANA BOROO |
The singer’s management has stated categorically that it will ensure Nana Boroo gets arrested, sent to court and imprisoned for at least 3years.
News-One broke the story that Boroo included Blink’s voice in his new song for a malaria project without his (Blink) consent. Blink threatened to go to court last week Monday, but no lawsuit has been heard of so far.
Meanwhile, reports say Boroo is currently cruising in America and perhaps that could be the reason why the law suit has delayed. SK Blinks told Happy Fm on Saturday that he has forgiven Boroo for ‘stealing’ the Ahayede song however; he wanted answers to why his voice was used on the new malaria song without his permission.
Manager David Sylvester said on the show that they made contact with somebody from Boroo’s camp (name withheld) to meet with his management to find a lasting solution to the problem at stake.
However, he warned that Boroo has not done the right thing so his management will make sure that they deal with him to serve as a deterrent to others.

I Hate Prison Life - Shaka Zulu
SHAKA ZULU |
Shaka has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is currently on remand at the Nsawam Prisons. His manager, Felix Akpor, told News-One about how the artiste is coping in prison. Felix said Shaka has become a very unhappy person who feels neglected by his friends and even some relatives. “He feels greatly neglected and dumped by the very people who hailed him and celebrated his fame.
To a very large extent, it is only his wife who visits him and sends him food and other essentials. Anytime I talk to him, he tells me how he hates prison life, yet is grateful to God it happened because it has taught him a lot of things about life.
“Even at the courts, nothing much is happening and the case continues to see one postponement after another. Shaka is not a very happy person and always says he hates prison life. The fact that his closest friends have abandoned him also saddens his heart a lot.
Life is hard for him and he always talks about the day he would be released. He asks me if his friends would visit him at home when he is released eventually and he asks this question with tears in his eyes,” Felix stated. “So far, it is only the wife who visits him because all others have neglected him but I believe his plea of not guilty and I know he would come out soon,” Felix noted.
News-One also learnt that Shaka’s two children are currently out of school due to financial reasons and his wife, Theresa, is also unemployed.
Theresa Cotey, wife of Shaka, told News-One in an interview last February that life had become very difficult for her as a single parent.
Speaking in the Ga language, Theresa noted: “How much profit can I get from the oranges I sell by the roadside? I use the same profit to feed the family and also feed my husband in cells. I am not complaining that I am sending him food but I do not have the means.”
She said apart from the difficult situation she was going through, the shame of having her husband in prison was also wearing her down.
Theresa disclosed that she got married to Shaka Zula some eight years ago. She said he was by then training as a professional boxer with Accra Star High but branched into showbiz because he was not getting a manager to promote his boxing career.
Shaka Zulu’s real name is Richard Cobbia and many Ghanaians fell in love with him after he played the role of Shaka Zulu in the video clip of 4×4’s hit track, ‘Fresh One’. He became even more popular when he started appearing in a TV commercial for Tigo. He was arrested in September last year with two others on suspicion of armed robbery.

Castro Denies Secret Marriage
castro & wife |
Castro told 'Beatwaves' during a visit to the Daily Guide office in Accra, that a lot of personalities in the showbiz industry, including friends and family members, were invited to witness his marriage ceremony which according to him, was announced in the media, adding, “How can this be secret when a lot of people were invited to witness the ceremony. It is not a secret thing I did”.
Castro is one of the finest breed of musicians from the west who has been a real showstopper at several live concerts in the country and beyond.
The hiplife artiste, known in real life as Theophilus Tagoe, denied allegations that a journalist with one of the showbiz newspapers was threatened and even prevented from taking pictures at the ceremony.
“No journalist was prevented from taking pictures. I know some of the journalists who witnessed the ceremony. Nobody threatened them or stopped them from performing their professional duties as far as I am concerned,” he lamented.
According to reports, the security at the ceremony was tight to the extent that one could not even use his or her phone to capture anything.
Before he launched his maiden album in 2003, Castro had featured on hip-life group 4×4’s hit track ‘Sikletele’, which officially introduced him into the local music scene. Just like his current album, ‘Sradinam’, in no time became one of the favourite hits for many Ghanaians.

Naija's 6 Richest Entertainers
TUFACE IDIBIA |
It has become a career through which not only those who are deft in the art, but even the government can generate revenue. With endorsement deals, sales of compact discs, shows, etc some musicians earn a lot of money, and respect too. Many of them are role models to the younger generation. In no particular order, Life&Beat lists the top six players in the industry who have made a success of showbiz.
- Don Jazzy–Michael Enebeli, also known as Don Jazzy, is the founder of Mo’Hits. Reputed to be one of the best and most sought after producers, showbiz-savvy Nigerians don’t refer to him as a music producer but THE music producer. At age five, Don Jazzy already had eyes for the microphone, the music console and was always in the studio. He was a member of Good Morning Kids, a group created by his father. Don Jazzy is known for his business dexterity. Little wonder he successfully built Mo’Hits from scratch to become one of the biggest entertainment empires in the country. He recently signed a recording deal with international superstar, Kanye West – a move that not only boosted his reputation as an entertainer, but also his wealth.
- Tuface–Born Innocent Idibia, the former member of the band, Plantashun Boyz, is said to be among the richest artistes in the industry. With two platinum records in his kitty, Tuface is speculated to be worth about N550m. It comes as no surprise as he has had endorsement deals with brands like Guinness, which earned him N20m and Airtel, which earned him N22m this year. He was also said to have earned N30m from the producers of Phat Girls movie, and charges between N4m and N5m depending on the show. The artiste has invested heavily in real estate and stocks, where he earns big bucks. He once said he was set to recover all the wealth taken from Africa.
- BANKY W – Also known as Mr. Capable, Banky W has proved to Nigerians that he is capable of being among the richest entertainers in the industry. He makes the bulk of his wealth from gigs. He is said to charge between N2.5m and N3m per show and performs three to four times in a week. He is a brand ambassador of Estisalat, one of Nigeria’s telecommunications giants, where he featured in their popular commercial, 0809ja for life. He also featured in Coca Cola-Nigeria’s World Cup theme song and Microsoft’s Anti-cyber Crime Initiative. Banky W is an entrepreneur and has invested heavily in businesses that are fetching him good money. As a philanthropist, he founded the Mr. Capable Foundation, where he provides tuition fees for indigent and brilliant students.
- D’banj– Popularly known as the Kokomaster or Mr. Endowed, D’Banj is one artiste that has a penchant for making money. D’Banj certainly has a passion for business. Apart from music, Mr. Endowed has other businesses, which include Koko Mansion, a TV reality show, Koko Lounge, an upscale hangout in Lagos and UK, Koko Foundation, a charity and the recently-launched Koko Mobile under his label christened, Koko. The bulk of his money comes from endorsements – his endorsement deal with Globacom telecommunications cost N70m. He has a multimillion naira endorsement with an energy drink, Power Fist; a deal with the makers of Virgin Colour soft drink; and another multi-million naira deal with a popular jeweller. He has a deal running into millions with Chris Aire, as the face of his watches and another one with UAC Foods. He collects between N5m and N7m as performance fee for local gigs; $80,000 to $150,000 for African shows; £40,000 to £60,000 for UK shows; and $50,000 to $60,000 for American shows. Like his boss, Don Jazzy, D’banj also bagged a recording deal with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music; this will not only boost his career, but also the fee he attracts. D’Banj once said, “I work hard so that money, awards, endorsements, bookings and kokolets chase me.”

Alex picks Luclay and Karen as forerunners for Big Brother bucks!
Ghanaian Big Brother Amplified housemate, Alex Biney popularly known as ‘Bomaye’ has arrived in Ghana after his 70-day stay in the hit reality TV series. The just evicted housemate at a press conference in Accra revealed that he sees Nigeria’s Karen and South Africa’s Luclay to be at the forefront of the race for the double $200,000 cash prize.
“Karen and Lucay are at the forefront. If that’s the case, then by all means they should take it. However I don’t like to judge whoever should take the money just because two people are at the forefront. It’s the last stretch of the game and you got to bear in mind that it is a game and its entertainment. So basically it is whoever that keeps us entertained and glued to the television till the very last day that deserves the money. And if it means that Karen and Luclay are doing just that then of course Kudos to them,” says Alex.
Alex still remains evasive about his true feelings for fellow housemates Miss P and Weza but wasn’t shy to admit that of all the kisses he enjoyed while in the Big Brother House, the best was from the sexy Angolan, Weza. “I definitely think that the kiss Weza and I shared was more passionate. She came into the house with animosity between her and Millicent so she came in with a strategy to kind of seduce me or get me away from Millicent but we connected on a different level. We started to see each other differently and that kiss made it a little more emotional for the both of us but definitely it was a good kiss.”
‘The ladies’ man’, Alex said he expected to be put up for eviction the week he was evicted because of the drama between him, Weza and Miss P but added that he didn’t fully understand that he would be leaving because he had not prepared himself mentally to leave the house at that point. Comparing his strategy with that of Nic, he commented: “I really don’t know Nic’s strategy however I wasn’t playing these girls. I went into the house with the intention of being personable, being myself and being likeable by the house. I judged the viewership on how I saw the house, if the house liked me then I knew that the viewers liked me. It worked for a long time until certain emotions got crossed and eventually it played a factor in me leaving the house. I never played any of the girls; I was genuine and connected with all of them.”
Alex in spite of being tagged as a typical ladies’ man said that he grew up in a family of strong women that taught him to respect women and so that informed him to restrain his relationship with the girls in the Big Brother House. He said it would be easy for a man to have sex in such a situation and he would only be referred to as a player and not criticized much for his behaviour by society while a woman would be tagged as a slut and chastised by the public if she applied herself to a similar behavior, especially in the African setting. He therefore protected the girls in the house as a sign of his respect for woman and he hopes that he set some standards for African men to follow and value African women.
Describing the Big Brother experience, Alex said he loved the entire experience although it came with its ups and down. He said he wished that the cameras in the house could be less obvious to housemates so that they would be less aware of their actions and be more real and spontaneous. He implied that the likes of Hanni, Sharon O and Wendal are not as strong and entertaining as the others but admitted that by the nature of the game, the strong characters are put in the limelight and the disadvantage is that they are put up for eviction by people who see them as a threat.
Moving forward, Alex is hopeful that the experience would open up several opportunities for him, particularly in the world of showbiz and fashion. He added that he has plans for setting up his own fashion business from his experience with Phat Farm in the US. He will also be using his new celebrity status to support environmental campaigns including the fight against malaria and the promotion of good sanitation via Team Alex, a group that was formed by friends and fans to whip up support for his Big Brother Amplified campaign.
Alex was presented with a DStv Mobile enabled Nokia handset with one year free subscription from DStv Mobile Ghana. There will also be an eviction party for Alex at fellow Ghanaian Big Brother housemate, Confidence Haugen’s popular Aphrodisiac Nightclub on Saturday, July 16.
Big Brother Amplified star, Alex hits on Nadia Buari on national TV
ALEX NADIA |
A viewer sent in a text message suggesting Nadia and Alex would be good together as a couple. Alex replied “I Think so too”, attracting a smile from the beautiful actress. He added that he thinks Nadia likes dark chocolate guys since she dated Michael Essien in the past, thus making him (Alex) a perfect candidate for Nadia.
Nadia and Alex were both guests on the Diva Show and several points in their double interview, the host picked on signs that Alex was checking Nadia out. At some stage, the host, Nana Aba Anamuah even had to ask Alex to stop staring at Nadia’s legs.
When Alex was asked whether Nadia could do well in the Big Brother house, he replied that Nadia just had to smile and Big Brother would declare her the winner. Corny? Wait there is more! Alex added that he had watched a lot of Nadia Buari movies including ‘Beyonce’ and was smitten by Nadia’s smile in posters.
“I’m blushing literally”, Nadia replied
Meanwhile it appears Ghanaian would love to see a relationship between Alex and the sexy Angolan housemate, Weza. Some viewers requested that Alex should invite Weza over to Ghana so they can continue their relationship from the Big Brother House.
Sleek Magazine launches in Ghana with a Chris Attoh and Confidence cover for mid-July
Sleek Weekly, a Nigerian lifestyle and entertainment magazine has launched its operations in Ghana which would see more content from the country in the publication, which is circulated in 27 other African countries as well as the UK, Canada and US.
The mid-July edition which is expected to hit the shelves on Tuesday, July 19 focuses on Ghana’s biggest talent exports with Ghanaian sex symbol, TV personality and actor Chris Attoh as the main star on the cover. Joining him is the controversial, and out spoken owner of Aphrodisiac Nightclub and evicted housemate in the ongoing Big Brother Amplified reality TV show, Confidence Haugen.
Other features in the latest edition include a celebrity battle between football stars JJ Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu; interior designer Keisha Umoren; hot events across Africa; entertainment gist, among others.
According to Symon Adeji, CEO and strategic director of Sleek Media International, the magazine hopes to catch this consumer wave by becoming the first pan African weekly fashion and lifestyle magazine. He said the magazine would use a multi-level marketing strategy for all of Africa, and would operate virtual offices in Angola, Kenya, South Africa and Ghana. It would also establish sales points in these countries.
“We believe in taking big risks as the compensation equals the risk. However, we are operating on the timetable of our business expansion strategyOur projected readership for SleekWeekly is 850,000 copies within 10 months,” Adeji said.
SleekWeekly was first published as Sleek, a bi-monthly magazine, in 2005. It was revamped in 2009 and became a weekly in November last year. It now provides 44 glossy pages of lifestyle content, focusing on high-end luxury services and products. Adeji says it links “the artistry of Africa with the creativity of the West in a manner that has never been done before.”
Sleek Media International is a publishing, media consulting and PR Company, based in Lagos and New York, with an expansion plan rooted in a realization that there was a huge interest in Nigeria across Africa, partly because of the vibrant music scene and also because of Nollywood’s success in making films for the masses.
“We discovered that the rest of Africa wants to know what is going on in Nigeria,” Adeji said. He also referred to the rise of the middle class as another factor influencing the decision to move beyond Nigeria.
